International Women’s Day (IWD) takes place on Tuesday 8 March 2022. MCRactive are committed to celebrating women, amplifying their voices, driving better equality for Manchester women and increasing opportunities for women across Manchester.

Last month, members of MCRactive and Cheetham Community Cycling champion, Naz, attended a great networking event put on by Cycling UK. The team learned about funding opportunities available to Manchester’s communities for community cycling clubs and events, and had the chance to meet with cycling friends old and new from a range of groups and organisations!

The MCRactive Health and Wellbeing Team have also recently been working with the University of Glasgow and British Cycling, researching whether targeted cycle training and support will improve cycling uptake in women from Cheetham. The team have been supporting a number workshops to discover the often-unseen barriers women face in cycling and how MCRactive can support.

The first cycle training session received a resoundingly positive response with some of the women expressing their excitement to ride a bike for the first time! You can hear more about the program and the experiences of those involved in the recent edition of the Winning Hearts & Minds podcast, which you can listen to here.

Together we can create a gender equal world, one that is free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.  #BreaktheBias to help build a world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. Find out about everything taking place around the globe for IWD and how you can help support on their website.
