This week marks Baby Week in Manchester. This six-day program is filled with exciting activities that are designed to support your child's growth from conception to 2 years old. Starting on June 12, you can come and join us for lots of exciting events, activities, and cool things to do - and guess what? It's all absolutely free!

To celebrate, we'd like to share a wonderful story about a new mum recently completing a half-marathon, despite the challenges a new born baby can bring.

On 21 May, Emma from Active For Life ran the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run Half Marathon. Emma is supported by Manchester Active and Everyone Active to provide pre and post-natal programs and classes to pregnant women and new mums in Manchester at the Wythenshawe Forum.

At around the 4 mile point Emma suddenly found herself running alongside Shingai. Shingai is an Everyone Active member and was one of the founder and regular members of the pre and postnatal class until she returned to work. Both women have kept in touch and Shingai has continued to come along along to sessions when she had an occasional day off, as it’s a class she can bring her daughter to.

It was a chance meeting, as neither of the two women knew the other was running it. Emma and Shingai then ran the rest of the race together and were able to finish in a very respectable time despite the beating sun and hot temperatures on the day.

It is an amazing achievement for a post-natal mum to run the 13.1 mile half marathon before her baby has even turned 1, so to celebrate and congratulate Shingai, Emma and Everyone Active have collaborated to award her a months free membership at the Wythenshawe Forum.

Congratulations both! If you are a pregnant woman or new mum looking to stay active, Active Mums Club Manchester is a community of fitness, health and wellness professionals who specialise in pre and postnatal women’s health.
