National Governing Bodies in manchester

Manchester is a globally recognised 'City of Sport'. For the past 5 years, BCW has named Manchester in their Top 10 list of Global Sporting Cities.

With 5 National centre's in the city alone, Manchester's uniquely placed ability to host major sporting events has always made it an attractive location for national governing bodies.

In 2023, we also opened House of Sport Manchester, as part of Sport England national strategy, bringing together 9 National Governing Bodies of Sport and sporting partners under one roof.

Situated on the Etihad Campus, the House of Sport Manchester is a hub for all types of professional and amateur sports' providing not only a physical location, but a shared working environment tailored to inspire collaboration, build partnerships, and generate innovative ideas to influence the sport, health, and physical activity sectors across the city.
Having already welcomed the relocation of the Rugby Football League headquarters late last year onto the Campus, Manchester is now home to 14 National Governing Bodies and Sport Federations.

These developments not only further our global reputation but follow on immediately from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) news that Manchester will be the new home of both the World Para Athletics and World Para Swimming governing bodies ahead of 2026.

We’re proud to be firmly established and recognised as a world-leading city for sport, boasting a comprehensive infrastructure of elite training environments, regularly producing athletes connected with Manchester who dominate podium places at major events, and an enviable and vibrant regional, national and international events programme, which, with our 8th global position ahead of all other UK cities except London, we aspire to maintain and build upon year on year.

Through this collaboration, we have brought together key sporting, health and physical activity organisations to Manchester, creating a shared location which ensures that the city remains a truly world-class sporting destination
