Fresh air, being in nature, walking, talking, learning and hysterical laughing (we blame sleep deprivation!) are all great for you (and your baby). That's why we set up Walking Mums Club!

We've built an inclusive community of mums who walk together across parks in Greater Manchester, building new friendships, supporting each other and sharing stories of their parental journeys.

Come join us on a walk in your local park. It's a great way to take those first steps pre and post-partum and link in to a network of mums all experiencing the same highs and lows.

Nutrition and being active go hand in hand for a healthy pregnancy - it's important for both you and baby.

Manchester mum of 3 and Registered Nutritionist, Aliya Porter is here to help you with your nutrition through your pregnancy and beyond. Whether you are after a free factsheet, a one to one consultation or a course, her advice is practical and it won't chain you to the kitchen or cost you a fortune.

Maternal obesity is one of the three leading factors behind Manchester's fourth worst infant mortality rate in England. A little over 12 months ago, Public Health Specialist Midwife Sue McAuliffe approached MCRactive about the physical activity offer (or lack of) for pregnant women and new mums across Manchester.

Manchester has had a strategy to reduce infant mortality since 2019 (link) with very little input from MCRactive or any physical activity representative. Since joining the RIM steering group, MCRactive’s Richard Harcourt has been working with several partners such as the NHS, Sure Start, Buzz, and independent / leisure providers to design a suitable, accessible and sustainable programme.

Launching off the back of Baby Week (w/c 11 July 2022), Better and Sure Start will pilot a new pregnancy, new mums, and baby programme at Moss Side Leisure Centre and North City Family & Fitness Centre. The programme will consist of generic fitness, yoga, and aqua with baby yoga and massage joining later - these sessions will be capped at £3 per visit. Ensuring the offer is accessible for all. MCRactive is providing training for Sure Start staff and has also negotiated using free space within leisure centres allowing Sure Start to offer their users free provision. (An Everyone Active programme at Wythenshawe Forum will follow shortly).

In addition to the activity programme, we have secured funding to create a promotional and educational video highlighting the benefits of physical activity both physically and mentally during pregnancy. We have worked closely with a network of local, passionate fitness professionals who run a variety of quality active sessions for pre and postnatal mums across the city. Collectively known as "Active Mums Club Manchester" , the group have provided content and collaborated on a video to inspire mums and mums to be in Manchester to move more and feel better. This is a direct response to a survey which showed that only 18% of women asked across the three MFT maternity wards know the Chief Medical Officer's physical activity guidelines during pregnancy. The video and activity programme to be launched during Baby Week.
