Alexandra Park was opened to the public in1870 and was designed by Alexander Hennell. The design of the Park was experimental in its use of oval shaped and curved pathways, which contrasted with the more rigid geometry seen previously in Victorian landscapes. The Park underwent a £5million transformation during 2013/14 with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Manchester City Council, the Lawn Tennis Association, English Cricket Board and Sport England to bring the community facilities back to life. It is located between the vibrant communities of Whalley Range & Moss Side, just off Princess Road and covers 60 acres. The park’s website provides a range of information about the facilities within the Park, the various Groups that have been set up by Park users and the events and sporting activity that regularly take place. Click here for park website. New to Alexandra Park is the incorporation of audio guides, interactive maps and augmented reality games now available via the Love Exploring app. All of the activities are free and most will show you something about the park that you may have missed, even if you’ve visited many times, so download the app to discover more! The excellent Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) website contains route planners, to find your way from anywhere in Manchester, as well as downloadable timetable.
