barracks street park (st george's park)

The site previously contained the barracks and was home to a battalion of the 15th King's Hussars, a unit that later gained prominence for its enforcement role played within the Peterloo massacre of 1819. By the turn of the 20th century the area was redeveloped into St George's Park. It was renamed Barrack Park in 1994 following refurbishment. The park is a 5 minute walk from the nearest bus stop via the 255, 256, 263. If you wish to take the tram, the park is accessible via the Blue Line, Navy Line, Pink Line and Purple Line. The Park is a 10 min walk from Cornbook tram stop. For more information on transport, the excellent Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) website contains route planners, to find your way from anywhere in Manchester, as well as downloadable timetables.
