philips park

One of the first municipal parks in the country, Philips Park dates back to 1846 and is one of the largest parks in Greater Manchester. This historic park is also Grade II-listed and many of its original features remain to this day, including the carriage drive, serpentine paths, amphitheatre and the Head Gardener's house. The park has undergone significant refurbishment, and today is a key green space within the Medlock River Valley corridor. For information on transport, the excellent Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) website contains route planners, to find your way from anywhere in Manchester, as well as downloadable timetables.

The skills area, situated in Philips Park adjacent to the National Cycling Centre, allows riders to perfect their off-road skills in a safe and controlled environment and will host supervised coached sessions. The Clayton Vale Mountain Bike Trail offers unrestricted free access for casual users and allow mountain-bikers to enjoy off-road rides on a large network within the Clayton Vale Local Nature Reserve. The trails cater for varying abilities, from novice and family riders to experienced mountain bike pros. The trail also includes a run designed specifically for disabled people, a world first. The urban setting of the trail makes the project unique, the majority of the country’s existing mountain bike trails are situated in rural areas making them hard to get to. Visit Website
